Curing dog allergies
Before I talk about curing dog allergies…..
I want to tell you about a product that I’ve had sitting in my fridge for awhile. About 1 1/2 years ago, when my Pom X, Joey was suffering from asthma due to air born allergies, I bought a bottle of Natural Pet Allergies homeopathic medicine. The young lady at the pet supply store assured me that the product was a top seller because it worked.
I have used homeopathic medicine in the past but sparingly because the pills always seemed to be made with lactose. As a dairy intolerant person, lactose is not a good idea in homeopathic form. This product, the Natural Pet Allergies formula is made with pure water and two harmless preservatives- citric acid and potassium sorbate.
Little Joey seemed to benefit from easier breathing
but in his case, there was only so much any medicine could do. Joey was suffering from a congenital narrowing and collapsing of his windpipe. The directions said to put 1/2 capfull in the dish of water, regardless of size of dog. Now my dogs had a fairly large dish so I put more than that in their dish, probably more like a full capful. Joey and his friend, Bobo passed away that summer, and the bottle of leftover homeopathic medicine got forgotten in the fridge.
That winter, I become ill with a chronic and very phlemy cough and sinus drip. We had a very wet summer that year in 2016, and by fall, it seemed that I could smell mold in the air. My horses’ hay was plagued with mold and I was forced to dip my nose into it to check for it. In order to save as much of the hay as possible, my husband and I made a homemade hay steamer, that we used to steam the hay before feeding it to the horses. All the while, I still had to handle the moldly hay, was breathing in the spores before it was steamed thoroughly.
What a miserable winter and spring I had! By late spring, as the snow was melting, it was apparent that we also had what is called ‘snow mold’, to add to the problems. If you haven’t already guessed, I am extremely allergic to mold of differing kinds. I cannot have house plants in our home because of a particular kind of mold that grows in the houseplant soil.
I hoped that as the sun dried up the ground and killed off much of the mold, that my terrible cough would subside. It was difficult, and almost impossible to get a good nights sleep, as I felt myself suffocating in the phlegm. I was fighting back with loads of pre and probiotics and gradually my health improved to the point where my cough stopped.
All this summer though, I could feel and taste the salty flow of phlegm, dripping down the back of my throat. I knew all was not well. My husband too, had a constant sinus drip drip drip. For him it escalated first, by late summer, his sinus drip had turned into a flow and a very annoying cough. A month later, I was exhibiting the same symptoms, both of us miserable. This summer was very dry, the opposite of last summer, and lots of wind. Lots of dust, and some days lots of smoke from faraway forrest fires too. By Fall, we were subjected to the dust of surrounding fields being harvested by combines. Both of us struggled on, resorting to off the counter antihistimines in desperation.
I took a closer look at our diet,
trying to minimize the mucous forming foods like eggs and starches. I searched out a smoothie recipe that was made with vegetables like cucumbers, radishes and beets, with ginger and parsley to help clear out the mucous. We had 3 doses of that and no more. We had upset stomaches after drinking this vile mix and I nearly gagged swallowing this thick mixture down. It was particularily thick because instead of using a juicer (as the author suggested), I used my Vitamixer which pulverized everything.
So now we were back to square one, no further ahead than before. We noticed that if we spent a few hours in a large department store, with filtered air systems, we felt much better. However, stepping back outside, driving home, the drip and cough slowly crept back. What were we supposed to do? We live in a farming community, there is no way to escape the dust, smoke and other allergens in the air. With winter approaching, and remembering all too well, my misery from the winter before, I was losing hope. A few days ago, I noticed the partial bottle of the Natural Pet Allergies medicine in the fridge. Desperate people do desperate things.
I poured out half a cap full which filled up one of my coffee teaspoons and popped it into my mouth. It barely tasted like anything. I would describe it as having a slight metallic aftertaste? Within 10 minutes, to my amazement, I was no longer choking on the sinus drip (which had become a flow). I went about my day and in an hour or so, I was getting miserable again. I reached for the same medicine and the results were the same, very quick results.
I knew I was onto something now.
However, my bottle was only a quarter full, and the store that I bought it from is a fair distance away. I used it sparingly, taking 1/2 tsp, every few hours when I got too miserable. I did this for 2 days and by the third day, I was barely noticing the sinus drip. Today was the third day and I have only had 2 doses. Little by little, my immune system is being healed!
I have enough in the bottle, maybe for 2-3 doses more. My husband is still suffering, and using antihistamines in the meantime. There was not enough for the two of us, I volunteered to be the test subject. Our weekly shopping trip to a certain city is coming up in a couple of days, and i am sprinting to the same pet supply store where I found this bottle of Natural Pet Allergies homeopathic remedy.
I spent some time today, looking for a homepathic remedy and placed an order for Natrum Muriaticum, found on Amazon. It took me awhile to find one that was not made with lactose in pill form. It will prob take a week or two to get here but I will continue to take the dog medicine in the meantime. I plan on taking the single Natrum Muriaticum as a test, to see if it works as well as the multi symptom dog product does.
P.S.- This product worked for me, I just recently finished the bottle. It’s not ideal for dogs though as it comes in tiny tablets about the size of peppercorns.
Natural Pet Allergies has a very powerful collection of ingredients
that cover a long list of possible allergy reactions. For example Adenosinum cyclophosphoricum for upset stomach, Adrenocorticotrophin for difficult respiration, Alium cepa for nasal discharge, Ambrosia artemisiaefolia for sneezing and watery discharge, Arsenicum album for itching and swelling of skin, Arum riphyllum for itching nose and profuse saliva, Arundo mauritanica for scratching of head and ears, Cortisone aceticum for dry skin and eyes, Euphrasia officinalis for watery eyes and nose, Galphimia glauca for skin allergies, Histaminum hydrochloricum for itching eyes, Kali muriaticum for short and acute cough, Mucosa nasalis suis for nasal sensitivity, Naphthalinum for restessness, Natrum muriaticum for watery eyes, Sabadilla for itching and constipation, Sulphur or itching or burning skin and lastly Wyethia helenioides for congestion and cough…
Now this is a list specifically for dogs, however I can tell you that my symptoms involved itchy skin, itchy ears, restlessness, nasal discharge, coughing, itchy scalp in addition to the sinus drip down the back of my throat. I sure feel sorry for any dog that has most of these symptoms!
My point here is that if this can work so well with a human, I have absolutely no doubt that it will work well with any dog. If I did have a dog with air born allergies, as my Joey did, i would not simply put some in his water today. I would dose him every few hours as I did for myself. Of course you will have to make that decision for yourself and your dog.
I have not felt this good in a very very long time!
Going by the reviews that I have read on this product as a dog allergies cure, many dogs HAVE been cured from various allergies. Now if your dog has an allergy to what is in his dog food, you will have to address that as well.
